First Presbyterian Church of Glasgow, KY.

This book is rather a fascinating look at the oldest church in Glasgow. It pre-dated the other two old churches - Glasgow Baptist and First Methodist so the reader will find many names that are familiar. The original minutes from 1802-1830's were lost. Then in 1841, the Cumberland Presbyterian Church was formed and First Presbyterian was loaned the minutes from that time frame to copy into their own books. This "Book 1" covers from 1844-1875. It begins with a large membership list from the 1830's showing deaths, dates received, dates removed, locations where members moved. Also included is a large list of infant baptisms - names and dates, most time parents. Following are the minutes of the business meetings (called Sessions). There are times when the church didn't meet or met elsewhere; several "difficulties" with members are shown and times when they had no minister. It is a fascinating look at the past of a struggling church in its earlier years. 66 pages with full-name index. $10.00

This manuscript was originally copied by the late Kenneth H. Lee. This church, formed in 1842, is close to the Edmonson County line and its members came from both counties. Not every meeting was shown; apparently there were scattered minutes or Mr. Lee was abstracting for names and events. Unlike many church minute books, this one is more detailed in the people who joined, left, were excluded or died. There are several membership lists and an entire section on obituaries of the members which show much information. Some of the major families included Berry, Coats, Davis, Doyel/Doyle, Furlong, Gardner, McDaniel, Nevill(e), Poynter, Reynolds and Vance. There are approximately 1800 names in the full-name index. Some information is given about the church before the minutes begin, the Little Hope Cemetery and Little Hope School. 49 pages. $7.00

Statenfield Sabbath School 1892-1898 Barren Co.

This little book, courtesy of the Dept. of Special Collections, WKU, is likely one of a kind. It is the transcription of a small African-American "Sabbath School" or Sunday School from 1892-1898. Statenfield Church housed a regular school also but these are the rare records of their Sabbath School. The dates are sometimes not shown, some are out of order and the writing is sometimes hard to decipher. Spelling is shown as interpreted. Each meeting shown gives the songs sung, Scripture readings, lessons and attendance. Added to this I have included the 1896 public school record of students with ages, parents/guardians and also the names of burials at the cemetery close to the church. Only 22 pages including a full-name index. $5.00

The Travelling Church.

Originally published in 1891 by George W. Ranck. 500-600 people begin a 3-month journey from Spotsylvania, VA to the Wilderness of Kentucky. With Rev. Lewis Craig and other ministers leading, they embarked on the mission of starting Baptist Churches in KY. Old, young, children and infants, free and slave, horses, oxen, chickens; all headed to the "Promised Land," leaving family and friends behind. What they endured en-route causes we in the 21st Century to shudder in disbelief. Deaths, Indian attacks, the Cumberland Mountains, winter weather, miles with no civilization in sight. This is the story of their journey in 1781. 28 pages including full-name index, biographies of some of the individuals cited, a large map of their journey and illustrations, many in color. $7.00

Three Springs United Baptist Church, Hart Co KY, 1823-1897.

Located near the Barren Co line, this church is often shown in Barren County. The church cemetery is right across the road. For several years in the 1860s this church ceased meeting, primarily during the Civil War times. It was reconstituted after a revival and the membership grew greatly. These minutes were transcribed many years ago by the late Judge Cann of Hart Co. Towards the end of the minutes, some years are missing as if they had been lost at some time, so the time frame is not continuous. Many Hart and Barren Co names will be found here. Additional information is added such as a photo of the current church, the cemetery and a listing of the burials in the church cemetery. 162 pages included full-name index. $18.00
